PlanSwift is a versatile software that caters to the needs of various departments within an organization. The primary use case revolves around the pre-construction department, where team members utilize the software for take-off and pricing of intricate plans. With PlanSwift, the process becomes easier, quicker, and clearer, ensuring smooth collaboration among team members. Additionally, the Project Management team relies on the software to confirm take-off items, while former members of the estimating department occasionally use it for quantity takeoffs on project sites. However, most estimators now prefer Bluebeam for this task.
Contractors across different trades have expressed their satisfaction with PlanSwift's accuracy and ability to provide marked up drawings. This feature enables them to easily identify variations, saving time and effort during project execution. In terms of compatibility, users value PlanSwift's integration with Excel, allowing them to present schedules in their preferred format for clients. The software's impact on productivity cannot be underestimated, as it significantly reduces the time and paperwork required for measuring jobs.
Customer service is another aspect that receives praise from users. The responsiveness and support offered by the customer service department have been appreciated by customers. With its availability on both mobile devices and desktop computers, PlanSwift offers accessibility and flexibility to users.
Overall, PlanSwift functions as a central hub for construction businesses, serving as the primary quantity take-off software for Project Managers and Estimators in organizations like Benchmark Construction. It streamlines workflow across departments by providing accurate quantities and valuable information for trade partners and project managers alike. Furthermore, it replaces paper copies of drawings and saves time and expenses in proposal building in the estimation department. Lastly, PlanSwift finds application in determining product quantities required by Territory Managers across the country in the Project Development department.

(1-4 of 4)PlanSwift - The Best Take-Off Software Around
- Easy to use and intuitive.
- Accurate data to use for projects, allowing for a central hub for all teams to work from.
- It's a central stop from take off and plan review all the way to plugging numbers into our estimating.
- The ability to link through SharePoint, which always access from any user and location.
- It could be more intuitive / easy to use on some of the more in depth areas like saving pricing per item.
- I think it would be great to have more 1:1 virtual training, especially with COVID times.
- If there was a way to easily track and save some of your frequent costs, as to create a type of estimating database.
- Huge return on investment with time savings compared to manual / hand take off.
- Accurate and reliable numbers to use for your team.
- Creating a single take off for all parties to use, in a single location, removing all guess work or confusion.
- Inspires collaboration by having multiple people work within the same project within the software.
PlanSwift -- Necessary, but not the best
- PlanSwift can be used in basic functions (LF & SF takeoffs) very easily.
- Has a quick interface for browsing and viewing.
- Provides easy export to excel functions.
- If you go beyond the basic functions (linear foot & square foot takeoffs) it becomes very antiquated and not user-friendly. It's not intuitive whatsoever for users lacking backing computer knowledge.
- The technical support is lacking in my opinion. The software feels dead, and the support team is hard to schedule. Also, if you do not pay for support per hour, it is impossible to get help.
- Their training videos are limited and hard to follow. This software is unnecessarily hard to be proficient at. There should be more simplistic ways to utilize this software.
We use PlanSwift on a daily basis and have done so for more than 10 years. It can be better, but it is a good solution for take-off software. Other cloud-based software is slow to view pages, and not as fast as PlanSwift.
- Positive: without PlanSwift, we would be stuck utilizing Bluebeam or antiquated methods of QTO. It works. It CAN be simple.
- Positive: pricing. You buy uy it once and you own it.
- Negative: assemblies are difficult to use and not intuitive to users with more basic computer knowledge.
- Negative: the interface is outdated.
OST (On screen takeoff). This product is by far better than PlanSwift, as it is amazingly easy to use. However, it is much more expensive.
Cloud-based takeoff software -- this kind of software is difficult for me to use because of how slow the pages load and navigate. It's hard to beat that from PlanSwift or OST.

Plan. Swift. Takeoff - does what it says on the tin
- Great interface with other software. Excel reports make it a breeze for my clients to interface with their own management software.
- Easy to set up different components and pricing structures. Time spent setting these up properly will save hundreds of hours down the line.
- Very simple to learn, with videos to walk you through each task.
- There are some great plug-ins, but you only get them for free if you pay the annual "maintenance" fee of $200.
- All of the preset items are in imperial measurements, Hey America - the rest of the world is metric. please come join us in this century!
- Licence is only good for 1 machine at a time (unless you purchase multiples). It's a bit annoying having remove it from my desktop when I want to take my tablet to visit a client. A licence that's good for 1x desktop and 1x tablet/portable would be great.
- Has paid for itself in next to no time. Not only can I produce takeoffs in a fraction of the time, but I'm always discovering new building products to add to the library.
- The minor drawback is the time required to set up your library of items in the first instance, like any new software, but once you get over that little hump you'll be laughing.
